Letters to my lover

In another life I’d have loved to be expectant with your child,
Grow a human being that’s yours to call child inside me,
I can’t help but imagine what your voice would sound like as a dad,
How your touch would feel like when you rub and kiss on my growing belly,
Only God knows how I’d have loved to have you hold my hand as I’m there giving birth.

In another life my name is mom and your name is dad,
We share a home – we share five beautiful children,
You are the epitome of a present dad and I’m the mom full of love,
We share a bed – we break bread on the same table,
We share love – we share life,
Your sins are mine and my innocence is yours.

In another life I’m in heaven,
I’m surrounded by your presence in the most intimate parts of my being,
I am safe from the “it could have been” and “it should have been” because it already *is*,
I’m covered in your arms, covered by your full chest – I’m covered from the back,
I’m covered in love,
And I’m never going back,
Back to a time before I found this love.

In another life I still think about you just the same way I do in this life,
I fantasize about us sitting on a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g,
I do my stance and stare at the mirror pretending you’re there,
I dance like you’re the only person watching,
I take every mask off because you dare to look at me no matter what you see,
I come to you wearing only my skin,
I come to you free,
I come to love you in this life and every other life.
